Flashing some skin nowadays is all the new rage, if you couldn’t tell already from this look that Katy Perry put together (or shall we say, tied together). This dress represents a popular trend of disingenuous mistakes we’ve been seeing around lately. A disingenuous mistake is described as “disingenuously ‘doing something wrong’ with one’s dress.” The mistakes are often small, so they are noticeable if concentrated on, yet not too noticeable to where it draws attention away from the outfit as a whole. This includes letting bra straps show or underwear hang out, missing buttons, wearing mismatched clothing, or purposely leaving out articles of clothing, often letting more skin show. These haphazard imperfections, are seen to enhance status, even though they can look careless and sloppy. However, this look has become the latest, most popular trend in our culture that even stars, such as Katy Perry here, are trying out. Making a disingenuous mistakes on your outfit is about coming across not put together and perfect which in the end is more elegant than trying too hard and looking too elegant. This dress is an example of a bad disingenuous mistake because it is looks as if it was cut up the side and Ms. Perry came along and tied it together, making a very revealing and somewhat cheap looking dress that distracts how glamorous she looks from the neck up with her pretty makeup and curled hair. Lets just hope she double knotted those knots.
Two rules regarding scissors: Don’t run with them and don’t take them to your own dress. Following in Katy Perry’s trendsetting style of missing random parts of your dress and making the infamous "disingenuous mistake" is Mischa Barton. She was recently seen in a dress that looked as if she took a pair of scissors to it herself, unhappy with the original design. Let’s step back and put the scissors away now Mischa. Hopefully you have Katy Perry on speed dial to come tie up any loose ends on that dress.

There are some trends that are timeless and will always be known in the world of fashion. These trends have lasted through all the different fashion changes our culture has gone through because they truly are "timeless pieces." Timeless designers, such as CoCo Chanel, often will create these timeless pieces. It is the most successful thing a designer can create, for it will never go out of style and will alway stay "classic," making it ultimately desirable to its consumer. This includes rings, watches, purses, jeans, pearls, and the of course, the little black dress. The infamous little black dress was made to have the ability to look great on almost anyone, almost anywhere. Notice the world almost. Sarah Jessica Parker here is an example of why the word almost is in that phrase. It looks like her mission with this dress was to make a rendition of the little black dress by adding frills, poufs, shoulder straps and then tying it all up across her chest and stamping it with a star. Gift wrapping completed! This version of the little black dress has way too much going on, making it distracting for the viewer. However, I’m not sure which is worse: the dress or the expression on her face. Sarah Jessica Parker doesn’t look too happy that she chose this dress either. Unfortunately for her she realized this after stepping outside the comfort of her home and onto the red carpet. Too bad she forgot the magic fairy wand that comes with this dress to bippidy bopity boo her way out of there.
Want to see how the timeless little black dress can be worn to actually look good? Feast your eyes upon a starlet that’s known for not only her voice, but also her great style. Taylor Swift

Since when have the rich started dressing like poor people? Oh yeah, that’s right, ever since or society decided it was the new trend, because it is no longer fashionable to flaunt "your best"at all times. Interesting trend if you ask me, since I have no desire to look like I just rolled out of the dumpster, like Taylor Momsen here. She's obviously caught whiff of this new trend and decided to try it out for herself, full force. The oversized trench coat, the long baggy skirt, and the hard core biker boots all put together make her look all sorts of the wrong extreme. The one thing that actually looks cute is the hat, but she ruins that look with oversized sunglasses causing most of her face to be covered. The dark red lipstick she has on is curious because lipstick evokes certain signs in our mind when worn, such as classy, glamourous, and sexy, yet I see neither of these things represented in this picture. It is interesting that Taylor would go through all the trouble of dressing poor, yet then at the end stop to add red lipstick which symbolizes the opposite of what her outfit is saying. At least her dog looks somewhat classy, yet notice how it’s walking at a distance from her as if to say to Taylor, “I am looking too high class in my little designer doggie dress to be seen in the presence of your homeless looking self. Please stop pulling on my leash and keep this distance between us.”
